WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS COSTS IN NEW CONSTRUCTION?
The price of a finished home involves four general phases of construction (over and above the cost of the unimproved land): a) Site work includes excavation, driveway requirement, water & sewer systems, utility extensions, drainage challenges, and foundation. b) Structure cost is a function of it’s size, architectural style and complexity, kitchen, baths and special features. c) Finish work involves painting, trim, flooring, decks or porches, heating/cooling /ventilation system and any landscaping ordered. d) Contractor fees include: design & engineering, business overhead, warranty & insurance costs, profit and risk (of cost overruns).
