I believe the Ivory trade is illegal(at least the trade of ivory from living mammals- mammoth ivory is legal). and there are lots of trade stipulations on old ivory as well. In general it has always been used as some sort of ornamentation, such as jewelry, sculpture etc. There aren’t really any functional uses other than the look or feel of an object. This quote is from Wikipedia…though I wouldn’t use the term practical since the use of ivory is not essential for the proper function of things. “Ivory has availed itself to many ornamental and practical uses.
