What are the uses of distilled water?
Distilled water is used when an absolute known water quality is desired. We use distilled water in the manufacture of various chemical products, intravenous solutions, medications, syrups, and in industry to protect delicate instruments from the build-up of calcium and iron. It is used in batteries to prolong the life of wet cells and as the dilutent for the electrolyte. We use distilled water to flush wounds during surgery and as a solvent for lyophlized medications and vaccines. It is seldom drunk because it has no taste (the taste of water is due to the mineral content which is removed by distillation). Most processed liquids that are consumed use distilled water so as to keep the original taste of the product.
