What are the uses of CA inhibitors?
CAIs are weak diuretics that lead to acidosis. Thus, the major indication is not as a diuretic but to correct metabolic alkalosis (e.g. in emphysema & high altitude) or to inhibit carbonic anhydrase-dependent secretions e.g. Simple glaucoma (to decrease aqueous formation) and Petit Mal Epilepsy (to decrease cerebrospinal fluid formation).
