What are the types of simulants?
1. The most common type is Cubic Zirconia, commonly known as CZ. Quality varies greatly. Some can be very good, others are just so so. CZ is made of zirconium oxide. 2. Russian diamonds are also a simulant. They are higher quality CZies. 3. Moissanite is also popular. It is a lab created mineral, consisting of silicon carbide. It is rather expensive, about $500 per carat. Pure colorless ones are rare. They tend to be slightly green or grey in certain light. Also, due to it’s higher radiance and brillance factors than natural diamonds, some consider them to be too sparkly.
