There are several types of 5 gallon water bottles on the market today. The most prevalent type of 5 gallon bottle is the polycarbonate plastic bottle. This is the industry standard among water delivery companies. The bottles are light and very durable hence the reason they are used by so many water delivery companies. However, the polycarbonate plastic 5 gallon water bottles (marked by recycling symbol #7) do contain a chemical known as Bisphenol A (BPA). Some studies have shown that BPA can cause adverse health effects in mice, non-human primates and potentially humans.
