What are the treatments if I got Lyme disease?
Antibiotic treatments, either orally or intravenously, is successful. The sooner treatment begins, the sooner you recover and avoid the complications of the later stages of the disease, such as arthritis. Antibiotics of choice are Doxycycline, Cefuroxime, and Amoxicillin. For children younger than nine and pregnant/breastfeeding women, Doxycycline is not used, as it might stain the developing permanent teeth in young children or babies. If you have not been treated at an earlier stage and have severe arthritis, intravenous treatment of the antibiotics of Penicillin or Ceftriaxone might be prescribed. If you were previously treated with antibiotics, further treatment is of no benefit and might lead to unnecessary side effects of the antibiotics and maybe cause other bacteria to develop resistance to the antibiotics used.
