Papillary thyroid cancer is the term used for several forms of cancers that occur in the thyroid gland. Together, these cancers account for roughly 80 percent of all thyroid cancer. They most commonly affect adults between the ages of 30 and 50, with women in this age group accounting for a large majority of cases. Fortunately, papillary thyroid cancer is rarely fatal.
