Submersed pond weeds include some of the most harmful exotic species. Hydrilla and Eurasian watermilfoil are two common non-native species that often shade out native species that provide food and shelter for fish and other aquatic life. More serious ramifications occur when drainage ditches and irrigation canals are inundated, impeding water flow and affecting fishing, swimming, and boating.
