What are the treatments for dog flea allergies?
The first thing you need to do is to eradicate the fleas from the environment of the dog by the use of flea elimination products to clear the environment of fleas. Giving the dog a bath in cool water with a shampoo designed for fleas, and a topical hot spot product, to help alleviate the symptoms of dog flea allergies while the pet heals. Injections of small amounts of flea saliva, the irritant, can be done to help the animal’s system return to normal. A medicated shampoo or cortisone products might be used when prescribed by your veterinarian. An animal bed with cedar chips in it might also help guard against fleas in the bedding of your pet, possibly eliminating dog flea allergies. If your pet has bitten and chewed their way to reddish patches, or broken the skin due to dog flea allergies, antibiotics may need to be given to the pet for some time period. As with any type of medication for your pet, be sure to follow the instructions and use it for as long as told by the veterinarian.
