What Are the Treatments for Cataracts in Dogs?
Dogs get cataracts on the lenses of their eyes just like humans do. One big exception is that dogs can get cataracts when they are still young (under 8 years old). Cataracts are any part of the lens that has become opaque so that light can not enter the eye through it. The cataracts in young dogs are largely hereditary. Other causes include diabetes, toxins and trauma to the eye. Cataracts can cause vision problems and even blindness if they are not properly treated. The treatment is largely determined by the type of cataract.
