What are the top three agenda items that the school board should focus on right now?
The board needs to be closely monitoring the immediate future of the states financing of education. A survey report just released by the Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) shows that if nothing is done with current funding laws and we make no cuts to our current programming and budget, Roseville Schools will see a 1.8 million dollar budget deficit in FY 2009. We need to educate our families and communities and work with education groups and our local legislators to ensure that this is addressed during the 2008 legislative session. We need to work together to ensure that adequate financial resources are available for meeting education needs and providing mandated services. We face a continuing growth in diversity of students and their needs. We must deliver a rigorous curriculum, activities and supportive services that ensure opportunity and coursework that are challenging, yet achievable for all students, from those with special needs to those with advanced abilities.
