Ignore what the first poster said. If you can get a degree from a top university lots of doors will be opened for you. The University of Chicago is the best university in Illinois — and one of the best in the United States. Northwestern is another nationally ranked school in Illinois — and close in stature to Chicago. If you go to either of these schools, people will view your degree as equivalent to one from Harvard, Duke or Stanford. The third best school in the state is University of Illinois. It is an excellent state school. After those three, I’d consider going out of state. There are lots of places you can get college rankings on-line — including at US News & World Report.
