What are the titles of some movies about Queen Elizabeth the first?
“Elizabeth R” was the classic BBC series about the life of Elizabeth. The role made Glenda Jackson a star for the rest of her life. The “R” incidentally is short for “Regina”, which is Latin for queen. “Mary, Queen of Scots” from 1972 is as much about Elizabeth as it is about her great rival. Glenda Jackson repeated her performance as the English queen. A remake is supposed to be released in 2008 starring Scarlett Johansson as Mary; no one has been cast as Elizabeth yet, although like the original, it will focus heavily on the complicated relationship of the two queens. The Wiki link below has a fairly complete list of Elizabeth movies; I have a suspicion they’ve missed something but I can’t put my finger on what. The other two links are the IMDb sites for the Glenda Jackson movies. Congratulations on your interest in “Gloriana”; she was/is a seminal figure in the rise of the English-speaking world. More people should know about her….
