What are the timelines for an investigation?

The length of time that the Registrar will take to investigate a matter will depend on the nature and complexity of the allegations. The Committee will endeavour to conduct the preliminary assessment within 60 working days of receipt of the notification. The Registrar will inform both the notifier and doctor whether further investigation will be undertaken and will keep both fully informed of the progress. Investigations that result in formal proceedings being taken against a doctor generally take between 6 to 12 months to complete.
