What are the threats and opportunities of the global lift truck market?
Malvaso: The global market is pretty much a mirror of what’s going on in North America. If there’s a bright spot it’s China. Their market is not down as much as the rest of the world. The challenge we all face is overcapacity in the industry. Look at Jungheinrich’s move to get rid of distribution in North America but to allow MCFA to distribute product here. That’s evidence they have a lot of manufacturing capacity and need to channel it in a different way than first anticipated, which should be lower cost to them. My fear is always around the barriers that either in shipping product across borders. We have no charge on lift trucks coming into North America. This opens up the market for Europeans, Koreans and Chinese. For us to get product into China, however, there’s still tight testing, you can’t self certify. You need third party certification of product quality and safety, and there are tariffs going into China, Europe, India and Korea. Q: What efforts are going into changing that
