We do not have a policy on this apart from the standard conditions of repatriation (tickets, cargo) but “in such cases like war” etc, Emirates will take responsibility for its staff – example “a repatriation plan was in effect during the Gulf war.” This situation would involve the UAE Government and foreign country Embassies to sort out an “evacuation” plan. As a corporation we do, however, respond on an as is basis. For example, post 9/11 we didn’t even consider a single redundancy and all our employees were paid in full. Those with leave were allowed to go on extended vacation and if required were even granted unpaid leave in accordance to developments operationally and politically. We don’t consider the options of a “safe zone” or sending people to home countries from where they will continue to work. All such alternatives and decisions are made as the situation warrants and the prime focus is on our employee safety.
