What are the symptoms of opium addiction?
All addictive substances have a common component: the potential for craving. Constantly wanting more of the substance, or feeling unsettled when it is not available, are symptoms of almost all addictions. With opium and its chemical cousins, continued use will require larger amounts to achieve the same sense of wellbeing. Physical symptoms of opium use include euphoria and a sense of emotional detachment, decreased alertness and coordination, impaired vision and concentration, loss of appetite and sex drive, weight loss and constipation (one of the original uses of opium was as a remedy for diarrhea).
