What are the symptoms of meningitis?
Classical symptoms can include: • Headaches, neck stiffness and dislike of light (photophobia) – known as ‘meningism’ • Fever, chills and muscle pain • Sometimes red or purple patches on the skin which do not fade when pressed – it is recommended that concerned individuals use a glass to press against the patches to see if they fade behind the glass • Seizures • Vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps • Confusion and lack of responsiveness
