What are the symptoms of lip cancer?
The symptoms of lip cancer develop slowly. Often in the initial stages there is an initial weakening of the line between the red vermilion of the lip and the white skin below the lip. As this weakening progresses, small scaling areas may form, and dysphasia may occur where there are scale-like areas on the lip. Dysphasia represents a premalignancy that if left untreated will advance to lip cancer. Lip cancer is often noted in its advanced forms by a severe ulceration that resembles a cold sore that won’t heal.
