What are the symptoms of dissociative identity disorder?
Dissociative identity disorder, or DID, used to be called multiple personality disorder. It is a disorder of the mind characterized by two or more personalities within one individual. These personalities are called alters, and a common number of alters is around 10. Each personality has its own thoughts and ways of doing things. Each one is an individual in itself. The cause is believed to be significant trauma, such as physical, sexual or psychological abuse. There are many signs and symptoms associated with DID.
