What are the symptoms of defects in thyroid gland in adults?

0

Symptoms are different in adults and in children. In adults there can be two problems with the thyroid gland, it can either be underactive or overactive. An underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) can cause symptoms such as weight gain, tiredness, dry skin, constipation, feeling too cold or frequent menstrual periods. Whereas, an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can cause symptoms such as weight loss, rapid heart rate, nervousness, diarrhea, a feeling of being too hot, or irregular menstrual periods. If anybody has even a single symptom from above, immediate checkup should be done. In case of any doubt, tests can be done at homes to be sure, without taking unnecessary appointments from doctors.
