What are the symptoms of avian influenza in people and how is it different from normal influenza?
As stated above, human infection with avian influenza viruses is very rare. In the past, some avian strains (e.g. H7N7) have caused mild symptoms, like conjunctivitis, in humans. The people who have been hospitalised with H5N1 infection since 2004 have generally had severe lung disease, beginning with high fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
