What are the surgical treatments for heart failure?
Treatment begins with getting patients on the best medicines to help the heart function as optimally as possible, and to remove the excess fluid. Other treatments are designed at optimizing the heart electrical circuit to beat more efficiently. This often requires a pacemaker and/or a defibrillator. Patients with severe heart failure may require surgery. We have expertise in performing valve and bypass operations in patients with heart failure. However, in some patients, these traditional surgeries will not help as the heart muscle is extensively damaged. In these patients, options may include a Left Ventricular Assist Device or Heart Transplantation.
