What are the superannuation benefits payable upon the death of a Canadian Forces (CF) member or CF pensioner?
• CF members with less than 5 years of regular force service, the survivor is entitled to the greater of a return of contributions with interest compounded quarterly, or a cash termination allowance of one month’s pay for each year of service, less the amount contributed to Canada Pension Plan; • CF members with 5 or more years of regular force service, the survivor is entitled to an annual allowance calculated on the basis of 1% of the deceased’s average annual pay during the best consecutive 5 year period of service, not exceeding 35 years (this amount is known as the basic allowance); • a child under age 18 is entitled to an annual allowance equal to 1/5 of the survivor’s basic allowance (total allowance paid cannot exceed 4/5 of the basic allowance), or if there is no survivor, the child’s allowance increases to 2/5 of the basic allowance (total allowance paid cannot exceed 8/5 of the basic allowance); • children between 18 and 25 years of age are entitled to an annual allowance fo
