What are the suitability and blue card requirements for emergency contractor staff?
The department understands that there may be times when services do not have sufficient staff to cover care and support to young people placed and therefore utilise emergency contracted staff. In order to ensure the suitability of these staff, the service is required to have the following process: • The service is to implement a risk management strategy • The worker must hold a current blue card which must be sighted and recorded by the service prior to commencing • The service is required to contact their CST or Child Safety After Hours Service to obtain departmental history checks before the person commences work to ensure they are not unsuitable. The outcome of these checks needs to be recorded by the service.
