WHAT ARE THE SUBJECT AREAS THAT THE GOVERNMENT CONSIDERS IN ADJUDICATING A SECURITY CLEARANCE?
The government has identified thirteen different substantive areas that they consider in adjudicating security clearances. They are identified as “Guidelines” and each one is referred to by a specific letter of the alphabet from A to M. They are: GUIDELINE A: Allegiance to the United States; GUIDELINE B: Foreign Influence; GUIDELINE C: Foreign Preference; GUIDELINE D: Sexual Behavior; GUIDELINE E: Personal Conduct; GUIDELINE F: Financial Considerations; GUIDELINE G: Alcohol Consumption; GUIDELINE H: Drug Involvement; GUIDELINE I: Emotional, Mental and Personality Disorders; GUIDELINE J: Criminal Conduct; GUIDELINE K: Security Violations; GUIDELINE L: Outside Activities; and, GUIDELINE M: Misuse of Information Technology Systems.
