What are the strongest over the counter sleeping pills?
In Canada, the name brands might be different from what I have seen in the US. Sominex, Unisom, Nytol, Benedryl, Simply Rest, Advil PM, and Tylenol PM are the major brands in the US. Advil PM and Tylenol PM have some extra ingredients for minor pains. The active ingredient for sleep in all these different brands is the same—–diphenhydramine HCl. In the US, you can usually get a generic version of this sleeping pill and save some money. The same is probably true in Canada. The recommended dose for these pills is 25 to 50 mg a night. I suppose you can go a little higher than 50, but I suggest you be careful about this and definitely don’t do this on a regular basis. If you sleep problem is fairly severe, you may need to see a doctor for prescription pills. However, all these pills are meant to be taken only on a temporary basis. I hope this helps.
