The bump size and markings are the same as the standard plans for our asphalt bumps. To view Portland’s bump installation guidelines and standard plans Click Here. The rubber bumps are marked with a 3M product that is glued to the rubber ramps. After application the reflective tape is sliced at the ramp joints. The glued tape is less flexible than the rubber and cannot be installed in cold weather. Portland’s experience using the glued tape to asphalt and rubber has been mixed. The markings tend to flake off after one or two seasons. Portland no longer uses glued tape for our bump pavement legends. Cold tape is rolled directly into the warm asphalt bump to mark them and the roadway legend is painted on and not maintained.
