A sufficiently advanced change-detection system, which takes all factors including system areas of the disk and the computer memory into account, has the best chance of detecting all current and future viral strains. Even with the most esoteric stealth technology, a virus must change *something* in the system. Therefore, adequately broadly based change detection is the best bet for absolute detection of all viral programs–if you can put up with the false alarms.
