What are the strength and limitation for case study method in Psychology?
The advantages of case studies are: it allows the researcher to study atypical areas that are so uncommon that they may not otherwise be studied, they provide in-depth analysis of specific people/disorders, and they can provide you with a lot of information on what has or has not helped the patient regarding treatment methods. The disadvantages are: the cases may be so rare that you can have a sample size as low as 1 (which creates horrible reliability and validity, since the sample is so small it is hard to have high external validity, and they are usually longitudinal studies that has a tendency to rely on other people findings without the ability to test for yourself.
