What are the steps to restoring a muscle car?

In restoring a muscle car, you must find a place to start from.  A total restoration will take more money than you making your car look racetrack ready.  I will give both of the ways of restoring your muscle car.

The total restoration is the reconstruction of the total car, so the beginning is to tear it down to the frame or to the bare axles for sandblasting and repairs.  The engine may need to be rebuilt or just get another one with more power, depending on your money situation.  Now, some of the interior can be restored and some will need to be replaced like the carpet and fabric from the seats and the headliner.   Not forgetting about the car body, this also will need to be restored by sandblasting and repairs.  This is taking out dents and replacing and filling in holes, etc.

The restoring of your muscle car to looked racetrack ready is much cheaper than the total restoration.  The process is done differently also.  You will begin on the engine; you may get it rebuilt for more power and to fix some problems that may exist already.  In doing this you may add more durable parts and belts.  While the engine is getting rebuilt, you will be able to take out the seat and carpet and take them to an auto detailer to be professionally cleaned.  Now, it’s time for the car body and the paint.

Get ready, get set, and go! Now, you know how to get your muscle car restored back to total or to look restored for the races.

There are many “steps”. It just depends on how big your bank roll is. You can start with a frame off restoration and go from there. Or if you don’t have that kind of money (most of us don’t) just get it road worthy and start building it up as you can afford to.
