What are the steps to getting a hearing aid?
First, we’ll make an appointment with you to come to our office for a hearing test. We’ll look in your ear with a “video-otoscope” to be sure you don’t have problems with wax or other blockages. We’ll also check to see if your eardrum is healthy and not injured. When we’re sure your ear is in good shape, we’ll test your hearing with a special measuring instrument called an audiometer. The object of the test is to determine your exact hearing loss. The testing is done in a sound proof booth, and each of your ears is tested separately through headphones. The perception of sound and the understanding of speech are both tested. The result is presented in the form of an audiogram. The audiogram enables us to establish the degree, type and progression of your hearing loss. Next, if we determine that there is indeed a hearing loss, we’ll discuss your available options. We’ll recommend a particular brand and/or model of hearing aid we feel will best benefit you.
