What are the steps on how to become a surgeon in the UK?
You will need a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grades A – C You then go on and study for A-Levels in order to get into university. Although each school has minimum requirements the absolute minimum is usually 3 A-levels at AAB (at least two A’s, one B). Two of the A-levels will need to be science based (e.g. biology, chemistry, or physics). It is useful to have maths and english too. Once at university you will study medicine (this takes about 5 years) Once this is passed and completed you will need to take a 2 year foundation course in general training. After this graduates select their speciality field – in your case, surgery. Training for this takes about 6 years. You will earn money whilst training though. As you can see, there will be a lot of schooling to do before becoming a fully qualified surgeon. You really need to be dedicated.
