In most states, professional licensure in architecture requires: 1.) An accredited professional degree (at Illinois, the Master of Architecture or M. Arch) 2.) Completion of the Intern Development Program (IDP), roughly 3 years 3.) Passage of the Architect Registration Exam (ARE) a comprehensive 9-part computer-based exam.
