What are the Steps for Obtaining a Green Card?
A green card is a document that allows an immigrant to reside in the United States. There are two types of green cards–a two-year, conditional green card that is granted based on a specific set of conditions and can be revoked if the conditions are not met and a 10-year unconditional green card that has no restrictions. Only individuals who have met certain criteria may apply for a green card, such as winners in the green card lottery and individuals residing in the United States on qualified visas. The method of applying for a green card depends upon the path under which the immigrant is eligible–each category has a different application process.
