Law enforcement agencies typically do not keep statistics on crime rates categorized by whether the property was vacant, but there is lots of anecdotal evidence to the effect that vacant homes harbor crime. The only statistics I’m aware of are as follows: A 2005 study by the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Woodstock Institute found that, holding other factors constant, each foreclosure in a 100-house neighborhood corresponded to a 2.4 percent jump in violent crime. and Homes in foreclosure that become vacant provide sites for crime or other neighborhood problems.
