What are the standards for school food and when did they start?
The school food standards were introduced in stages between September 2006 and September 2009. The introduction of the standards is now complete, and all local authority maintained primary, secondary, special schools, boarding schools and pupil referral units are required to meet: • Final food-based and nutrient-based standards for school lunches • Food-based standards for food other than lunches.
