What are the SSY and SSZ parameters for AISC ASD based steel design?
SSY and SSZ are terms which dictate how sidesway criteria should be used in computing the Cm coefficients. For both of them, a value of 0.0 means sidesway is present for the corresponding axis, and, a value of 1.0 means sidesway is not present for the corresponding axis. When SSY is set to 0.0, Cmy is set to 0.85 as per page 5-55 of AISC ASD. When SSZ is set to 0.0, Cmz is set to 0.85 as per page 5-55 of AISC ASD. When SSY is set to 1.0, Cmy is calculated as per the equations on page 5-55 of AISC ASD. When SSZ is set to 1.0, Cmz is calculated as per the equations on page 5-55 of AISC ASD. If the CMY parameter is specified (and the value is a valid one), that value is used, regardless of what the value of SSY is. If the CMZ parameter specified (and the value is a valid one), that value is used, regardless of what the value of SSZ is.
