I guess the main social impact was the communist revolution. Having been discontent with the incapable royal family and the growing poverty, more and more people started to follow revolutionary ideas in the early 20th century. Overgrown influence of Rasputin and the pointless WW1 were the final kicks at the corpse of the Russian monarchy. In 1917 the communist revolution succeeded, and the new Russian government quitted the war. However, by the early ’20s the country fell in pieces. Most conquered nations (e.g. the Finns, the Poles, the Baltic nations, the Caucasian nations) claimed independence and freed themselves from Russian rule. Check out Wikipedia for more info.
