What are the smoking laws for amsterdam coffeeshops now smoking law has been enforced in holland?
Officially since 01/Jul the smoking ban (already in place for some years) was rolled out to catering & entertainment establishments including coffee-shops This means there are a couple of choices: (a) the coffeeshop can create a seperate partitioned area (e.g. glass walls) away from staff for people to smoke. Practically this is not an option for most coffee-shops in Amsterdam due to space constrictons (b) smoke outside – nice in the summer, but here in the Netherlands, Autumn (Fall) and winter are pretty miserable – windy, rainy, horrible, so this is not really practcle either (c) you can smoke a joint which is pure marijuana with no tobacco or (d) you just buy marijuana and smoke it elsewhere e.g. home There are inspectors (raised from 40 to 200 from 01/Jul). Coffeeshops are under increased threat from A’dam’s council. If any reason is found to revoke the licence, then it will be done (and not re-issued to any party again) and so coffeeshops are very reluctant to break any laws……
