What are the Smog Check Requirements for California?
California is one of the states that have smog check requirements to operate a motor vehicle. California has very harsh rules on smog testing. This means that just because your car passes a smog check requirement in a different state, does not mean it will pass in California, so this must be checked. Unless you have a diesel powered vehicle, then you must pass the smog check requirements. Evidence of the passing by a certified smog check station must be submitted to the state. If you do not get a smog test when it is required, you may be charged a fee. The test consists of Emissions Inspection, Visual Inspection and Functional Inspection. These all need to be passed to drive your car in California. Some parts of California have enhanced smog check requirements.
