You don’t give much info about the what the worms look like so it’s impossible to tell. They could be planaria (will sometimes have a small “arrow” shaped head, range in color from whitish to black) if cut or divided each segment will grow into a whole worm, they can’t swim in the water but will often let go and fall through the water, harmless except they will eat anything they can find and mutliply fast and massively, hard to get rid of (you can sprinkle a pinch of dog dewormer powder on the water surface which will kill the worms but not the fish or other inverts or probacteria). Or nematodes (small thin threadish worms that wiggle in the water and up the sides of the tank, ranges from whitiesh to brown/green, like floating plants, scavengers, harmless to fish (some fish will eat them too), frequent tank cleaning and water changes will eventually make them go away).
