Stairways: Maximum rise 8″, minimum rise 4″, minimum run 9″, minimum headroom 6’8″, minimum width 36″ finished. Handrails required on stairways of 4 or more risers and shall be located from 34″ to 38″ above tread nosing. 6″ minimum tread on circular stairs at narrowest point. UBC 97 Sec. 1003.3.3.3, 1003.3.3.
