What are the similarities between the sargeant at arms and hte usher of the black rod?
First and foremost, “The Sgt at Arms” is responsible for the general security of the “House of Commons”; is further responsible for keeping order during proceedings, and if necassary can escort MP’s out of the House of Commons on the authority of the “Speaker of the House”. “The Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod” is also a parliamentary position, although his area of responsibility is for the “House of Lords”, where he plays a similar role to the “Sgt at Arms”, and albeit is more of a ceremonial role too.
