What are the similarities and differences between Web 2.0, Intranet and Extranet?
The term intranet refers to a company’s internal network. You typically hear people talk about an “intranet” application which is a web-based application accessible only to users on a company’s internal network. The term extranet refers to a website that is accessible by customers of a company. The term Web 2.0 typically refers to web-based applications that have been developed over the past few years that make use of AJAX technologies, i.e. technologies that give the applications a richer client feel. The term also refers to web applications that provide web services or ways to allow users to mix and match their content with other Web 2.0 applications (this type of mixing and matching of applications and services is called a “mash-up”).
