What are the similarities and differences between a food chain and an energy pyramid?

a food chain shows the different trophic levels i.e. producers, such as plants that make their own food through photosynthesis that get eaten by primary consumers (herbivores) that get eaten by secondary consumers and so on. an energy pyramid shows the energy being transfered from one level to another. for example if a plant makes 1000 units of energy the next trophic level will have 100 units of energy and the trophic level after that will have 10 units. this is because 90% of the energy is lost when transfered from one trophic level to another and also explains why there is a limit to the amount of levels in a food chain.
