What are the signs of a student being bullied?
These are a few signs that could indicate that a student is being bullied: • dislike and avoidance of going to school or participating in school activities • lack of friends • missing belongings • torn clothing • increased fearfulness and anxiety, mood swings, crying • decline in academic performance • poorer physical health and changes in sleep habits • increased negative self-perception. In addition, the following are examples of changes in behaviour that teachers may notice: • A student won’t join in group activities. • A student or group of students acts embarrassed about comments made in class at which another group laughs, but the teacher and other students don’t understand. • The student becomes unusually aggressive or compliant, and doesn’t appear to be able to behave assertively.
