What are the signs and symptoms of pulmonary stenosis?
Pulmonary stenosis has varying symptoms depending on how bad the narrowing of the valve is. Mild stenosis may not cause any symptoms at all. Problems occur when the narrowing is more severe, these include: • Extra pressure on the heart – the narrow valve means the right side of your heart has to work extra hard to pump blood to the artery and lungs. Eventually it can’t handle the extra pressure and stops pumping blood forward efficiently. This causes pressure to build up in your veins and in the right side of your heart. • Infection – pulmonary stenosis also means you are more at risk of developing an infection in the lining of the heart called bacterial endocarditis.
