What are the signs and symptoms of a skull fracture?
There are different types of skull fracture: • Simple skull fracture – the bone is broken, there is no break in the skin and the broken bone is not pressed inwards towards the brain • Depressed skull fracture – the bone is pressed inwards, towards the brain • Compound fracture – there is also a break in the skin so there is a risk of infection After some fractures there is bleeding from either the bone or from the brain itself, on top of any direct damage to the brain. When severe, this bleeding can cause increasing pressure on the brain.
